About Me

Hi!  I’m Mrs. Burlison

I am so glad to be a teacher at Curtis Elementary! The best part of working with elementary aged students is their excitement and curiosity. Every day is a new adventure and I love watching how each student in my class grows and changes throughout the school year. Not all days are perfect, but there are sticky fingers, giggles, hugs, and love on each day. We learn together each year and my class teaches me so much. I live in Weatherford with my family. My husband is a firefighter and we have three children who also attend WISD. Our family enjoys spending time outdoors!

My Promise to You

I promise you every day your child will learn something.

Some days they will bring it home in their hands.

Some days they will bring it home in their heads,

And some days they will bring it home in their hearts.

I am a lifelong learner. I graduated from Texas Christian University and began my teaching career as a secondary Career Technology Teacher.  I learned so much about how students learn and what drives them toward graduation.  I also learned a lot about what obstacles they faced that kept them from earning a diploma.  From those experiences with my secondary students, I discovered a passion for literacy.

My love of reading and desire to share the gift of reading with my students led me to elementary.  Math is fun, writing is awesome, science is so cool, social studies and social/emotional learning are so important, but reading is still my favorite part of the day.  Nothing empowers a student like being able to pick up a book and read it.

I hold a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas Arlington.  I also hold English Second Language and Reading Specialist certifications.
